KCG Aquatec, based in Tanzania, is a company in the aquaculture sector, specializing in the production of tilapia through cage farming in Lake Victoria, hatching tilapia fingerlings, and providing consultancy services. Established in 2019 initially as a consulting firm, the company has evolved to address the significant local demand for fish. With the Tanzanian government's push towards boosting local fish production due to a critical supply-demand gap exacerbated by population growth and rising incomes, KCG Aquatec has strategically positioned itself by developing a successful nucleus-outgrower model. This model not only aims to increase the production volume of fresh tilapia for the domestic retail and catering markets but also seeks to empower local communities by enabling outgrower groups to undertake cage fish farming. Through this innovative approach, KCG Aquatec is tackling the challenges of high upfront costs in aquaculture and contributing to the reduction of environmental impacts associated with traditional fishing methods, thus steering Tanzania towards self-sufficiency in fish production.
