In the dawn of April 2020, as the country was still battling to recover from the ravaging effects of COVID 19, Aliziwe Agyeman embarked on an extraordinary journey, recognizing a profound societal gap—unemployment and the scarcity of beauty skills within South Africa's black communities. Her vision led to the birth of Nail Boss Beauty Salon and Academy, a remarkable initiative that has since trained over 500 graduates in the beauty industry and employs 40 Beauticians, 6 supervisor and 1 country Director in 6 Provinces. Now, with a horizon that extends into rural areas, it is casting a brighter future and providing newfound purpose to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Amidst this economic landscape, small businesses like Nail Boss Beauty Salon and Academy are emerging as potent catalysts for positive change. Driving through the enchanting and culturally rich townships throughout South Africa, one can easily observe how hair salons have become formidable entrepreneurial endeavours, second only to the iconic shebeens.
