GOLDEN AGE ELDERLY HOMES UGANDA

Bio

Golden Age Elderly Homes Uganda was established in 2013 to assist elderly people in communities to leave dignified lives and enabling them age gracefully. The idea was inspired by the founder’s opportunity to care for her 105-year-old grandmother and the exposure to nursing homes in USA and Europe where elderly people receive a first-class health care treatment not only in nursing homes but also through the general public’s concern for the elderly through charity drives and donations. Given the accessibility and affordability constraints in our Ugandan public health care system, many aged people for most of the time are left behind partly because of their low- income status. Since our inception in 2013, we have attended to more than 800 elderly people who directly come to our facility in Namugongo for geriatric care service or Community outreaches. We have trained more than 250 home care-based care givers. We have conducted more than 30 community health camps in which we have provided general health screening in diabetes, blood pressure, Optical, Dental, HIV testing and counseling and general health consultation majorly targeting elderly people and also improved Nutrition through our numerous backyard farms.
